Puritans aren't as popular today, as they were in the past, but there are many people who live similarly to them. Puritans were extremely faithful to their religion, and abided by all the laws, rules, regulations, and beliefs. There are very many people and groups that strongly believe in, and stick to their beliefs. Political parties, religious parties, and just people's personal opinions or thoughts. In today's society the closest, religion wise, to Puritans would be the Westboro Baptist Church. They have their own thoughts about other people, and although an extreme amount of them disagree with it, the WBC does whatever they see fit, and does not break their guidelines. They do what they want to do, and protest every single little thing that does not fall under their belief, much like the Puritans.
These people believe in their own thoughts, and their mind will most likely not be changed. This is, in a way, the Puritan belief. Although there are extremely little to none people who are still puritans, and believe in their strict culture, there are still religious people believing in the bible, and in God, and in holy things. There is always some form of a 'Modern Puritan' whether it be a single person or a large group of people. They all have their own thoughts, concerns, and rules that lead them through life which the follow, and usually do not break. For Christians, it is the commandments and listening to the Bible, and for me it is not to do stupid crap and do everything the best that I can. I strongly believe that every person is a bit of a 'Modern Puritan' following their own ways and not breaking it, without others influencing it. There is always a line, and it varies where it is to various people.
I was thinking about the Westboro Baptist Church as well, though maybe in a viewpoint a little different from yours (which is a good point that I hadn't thought about). Do you think that the WBC and the Puritans deserve respect for their persistence and loyalty to their beliefs?
